When dieting fails

I agree, it’s a horrifying thought that after weeks of meticulous research and planning, to embark on a diet and/or exercise plan, only to discover it’s not working. At least not the way you thought it would. What does one do then? It may sound surprising, but thousands of Americans then resort to wight loss surgery.

However, is it for all? The thumb rule for opting for a weight loss surgery states that one must be at least 100 lbs overweight, and have a body mass index (BMI) of at least 40. BMI is a number you get by multiplying your weight in lbs in 703 and dividing the product by height squared (in inches).

The description ‘weight loss surgery’ suggests a simple procedure, some kind of a quick fix for obesity. However, the truth is not that simple — losing weight has got to be as close to a natural process as possible. While weight loss surgery does involve surgical removal of excess fat (in some cases), sometimes it also mean gastric bypass – a procedure that reroutes the digestive system causing rapid weight loss.

Then we also have gastroplasty, which is like a gastric bypass, rerouting the digestive system, while also limiting the food intake by actually making the stomach smaller.

While these procedures are irreversible, they also demand 3-4 days stay at the hospital and a well-organized health foods and exercise routine. And as in almost all surgeries, weight loss surgeries need to be performed by well experienced and recognized doctors. It’s a great idea to do some research on the Web to look for the best doctors, facilities and locations.

For instance, there are some weight loss surgery Mexico specialists who can offer you a number of packages on what type of weight loss procedure might suit you best.

  1. I like your article here. An misconception people have though is that a diet should work within weeks…but it took months/years of packing on the pounds.
I hope people realize that that diets (proper eating) WILL & DOES make their stomach smaller in the long run.
The best diet ever is eating what you want in small portions and no snacks, if you can help it. ;)
