Social Security Disability and You

Just read a couple of days ago in the Kansas City Star that in Kansas City, an applicants social security disability income (SSDI) were waiting for an average of 604 days for a decision from an admin law panel at the end of 2009. Shocking?

Sadly, that appears to the scenario mainly because of the difficulties involved in interpreting the guidelines, according to a source. The delay becomes a routine matter, folks start taking it for granted. Unless you have a services provider who will fight your case and get you the SSDI and medical benefits get you your legal dues in the shortest time possible.

Fortunately, there are some agencies like Allsup who have helped more than 130,000 people get their dues — with a success rate of 98 per cent. What’s convincing about Allsup is there’s no fee if you don’t receive your benefits, and when you do it, it’s a small fee. It’s good to have an expert on your side when you combating some long-drawn process like claiming your social security disability income.

Job search getting easier

Lately I keep getting the impression that the job market is indeed tilting its angle between — this time in favor of job seekers. With heavy signs of the global recession of 2008-09 fading away, more companies are hiring, though I might say a little bit cautiously.

But how does one actually find a job? Well, one could get inundated with the choices available. However, one fact stands out clear and bold — one has to acquire a certain level of specialization if the “job” has to mature into a “career’ in due time.

Coming back to jobs to get started with, a good starting place is of course your networking, if you have any. Word of mouth gets you further than any piece of paper. Then of course you have the local newspaper, hopefully for some immediate results. Next, I’d say, would be to stay in touch with established headhunters. And then of course you have the Internet.

Listing your resume with a reputed online jobs place will make your CV available to hundreds if not thousands of potential employers and, you do stand a good chance being called on the phone qith some basic questions, and an interview. You might land a jon on the phone!

“Dallas, here I come!”

Are you dreaming about saying it for real, sooner or later? Most people do, especially those who have felt the pulse of the city — and those who realize that Dallas real estate is probably the hottest and the fastest growing real estate market in the US now.

The cost of living is low — Californians will attest to that — which means you’ll be able to afford a nice house and still be able to afford long vacations! The city is rapidly becoming a business hub as well, so if you’re planning to invest purely from a commercial point of view, Dallas makes perfect business sense.

Why most business decisions are taken in the lobby

Many spend much effort spent in designing and choosing office furniture to impress their clients — they get the best materials, hire expensive firms to create ergonomic designs, lighting effects, what not. It’s a pity that not enough effort goes into designing the first room your client sees when they walk into your office complex — your lobby.

Not enough can be said about the importance of an impressive lobby. Other than it gives out the first impression, it’s also where your client may have to sit for a while waiting for you, and during that time — consciously or subconsciously — they will measure up the way you handle your business. For instance, they will invariably check out the thought that has gone into making your lobby furniture comfortable.

For one, the Jarvis Lounge Seating, shown above, can never go wrong. It puts your customer immediately at ease and in comfort. And that’s the first impression they get — Yes, this person really cares about his clients and his business. Trust me, in the middle of a stressful business meeting, no client will check out the interiors enough to gauge you up… it all happens before your client walks into your expensive, ergonomically designed office with the latest desks and window panes.

Choosing a receipt printer

Sounds innocuous enough, doesn’t it. Given advancements in today’s technology, What’s there to a receipt printer? However, there’s more to it than meets the eye.

For one, it’s quite vital to remember that your POS (point of sale) is your last chance at making an impression on your customer. Since card payment is the order of the day, most customers do need a receipt for records, and to top it, everyone is in a hurry, all the time. At such a time, you don’t want to make your customer wait just because your receipt printer just started acting up.

Apart from whatever your business needs are, there are three printer technologies that have proved to be reliable over the years — thermal, impact and inkjet.

Thermal printers are quick, economical and don’t use extra stuff such as ribbons and ink. However, you need to maintain a stock of thermal paper all the time. Impact printers rely on ribbons and impact, just like typewriters, and are ideal for restaurants where they may be used close to source of heat. If you’re looking to decorate your receipts with color graphics, then inkjet printers are probably your best bet, though they can be rather expensive due the costs of ink cartridges.

Workout fits?

No two thoughts about it – fitness is one of the few things that never goes out of style. Everyone wants it, but how many of us actually attain the level of fitness we really aspire for for?

A very great number of people have a very great number of excuses NOT to go the gym. “It’s too far.” “I don’t have the time.” “If only I had a four-day week.”… it goes on. However, I feel it would eliminate more than 80 per cent of the excuses — or call them ‘workout fits’ — if these people had some fitness equipment in their homes.

And oh, no, no excuses on this one. A mind-bogging variety of fitness gear is available to suit every need and pocket. You will find machines to get rid of that extra flab, build muscles or whatever your goal is. And these days you’ll find you can find them at extremely competitive rates on the Web. Some companies will even istall them for you in your home.

On the other hand, you can also find used fitness equipment such as treadmills, bikes, multi-station gyms, etc., all from top brands in the industry. So if you’re low on budget, get a used fitness machine, to get started at least. There goes the last of your excuses.

Living a full life with rheumatoid arthritis

First off, don’t let the term rheumatoid arthritis intimidate you. It’s an inflammatory disorder that typically affects joints in the hand and feet, as a result of which, the patient may experience prolonged swelling and pain. But the treatment options are many, so there’s no reason as to why one cannot live a full of contentment on a daily basis.

As with most things, staying informed is a super way to start dissecting a situation. As specialists, talk to other patients diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis and stay on top of things with the latest medical developments. Take steps to check the progression of the disease — for instance quitting smoking and getting into a routine of medically prescribed physical exrcise will keep it in check. I hear that a home exercise program with a focus on strict diet control is a step in the right direction.

A fine lady I know who’s suffering from rheumatoid arthritis handed me a couple of tips for a full living:

1. Don’t feel guilty about your rheumatoid arthritis. It could happen to anyone.
2. Do not isolate yourself and talk about your problem with people who understand.
3. Ask for help whenever there’s a need.
4. Remember that everyone is fighting a battle out there, so if you’re not really alone. Also, recall ten times a day that millions of people with the same illness are leading full, rich lives.

The magic of the faucet

Yes, a faucet. Well, does it sound ordinary and innocuous, right? But not many realize a majestic looking kitchen faucet can actually make your kitchen come alive in cheer, and add a touch of class as well!

Then again, you do find a number of grand designs around. Are they all the same? I made the error of compromising on quality once — and I ended up with a faucet, the casting of which had a fine whole and within six months, it started throwing out fine sprays of water each time I turned the tap on. The point then is to get one that’s top quality as well as priced to meet your budget.

And that’s how I found Grohe faucets. The European manufacturer sells in more than 175 countries worldwide, and built for lasting functionality. You also get them in a number of exquisite finishes such as oil rubbed bronze, satin nickel and velour chrome.

As for the price, my experience has been quite satisfactory, because not only I didn’t have to break the bank, but they fitted well within my reasonable budget. Of course, looking for designs as well as bargains is part of the fun!

Consider the tiles first

Many tell me that there are two ways to design a bathroom — either from scratch or remodeling — you either start off with the overall look and feel and work downwards to detail, or you start with the basics, the tiniest elements and work your design upward and see what you get.

The second option might land you in a bit of surprise, getting something very unexpected, but to me, that’s what works, mainly because I get to choose my favorite details first. For instance, you could start with selecting your tiles for the wall and the floor first, and then, logically speaking, the countertop will design itself!

However, considering the number of options available in tiles, it won’t hurt to surf the Web and do some smart buying from reliable and established companies.
