Protecting your identity

The contactless card (or RFID – Radio Frequency Identification card) could sound like the next major invention since the bread slicer, but its not without its limitations and risks.

For one, illegal RFID readers can easily pick up sensitive information on card, which they can transmit to criminals seeking those details for identity theft.

However, thankfully, you can buy protective devices for plastic cards that act against scanning by remotely held cardreaders. You can find RFID blocking wallets, passport covers and women’s clutches, among others. These devices are lined with a special alloy that just block the radio signals that attempt to copy information from cards, passports, driver’s licenses, etc.
